Atiku Emerges Victorious in Bayelsa During Nigeria’s 2023 Elections

In the south-south region of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, has emerged as the winner of the presidential election held in Bayelsa State on Saturday. The Independent National Electoral Commission announced that Atiku garnered a total of 68,818 votes, followed by Peter Obi of the Labour Party with 49,975 votes, and Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress with 42,572 votes. Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party came fourth with 540 votes.

Atiku emerged victorious in five out of the eight local government areas in Bayelsa State, namely Ekeremor, Kolokuma/Okpokuma, Sagbama, Brass, and Southern Ijaw local government areas. On the other hand, Tinubu won in Nembe and Ogbia local government areas, while Obi clinched the victory in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa.

The total number of registered voters in Bayelsa State was 105,6862, with 177,368 voters accredited for the elections. Out of this number, the total votes cast were 173,111, and the rejected votes amounted to 7,786.

INEC is yet to announce the results of senatorial and House of Representatives elections in the state.

In the neighboring Rivers, INEC had not yet announced the winner of the presidential election in the state.
