The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State has rejected the dissolution of its state executive committee by the party’s national leadership, describing the move as unconstitutional and lacking legal backing.

The party’s national headquarters had earlier announced the immediate dissolution of the Sokoto State executive committee, alongside the appointment of a 15-member caretaker committee to oversee party affairs in the state.

The caretaker committee was mandated to manage the party’s activities pending further directives from the national leadership.

However, reacting to the development, the Sokoto State PDP leadership dismissed the decision, insisting that the current executive remains the legitimate leadership of the party in the state.

The state chairman argued that the executive committee was duly elected and cannot be removed without following due legal and constitutional procedures.

He maintained that only a competent court has the authority to dissolve the elected leadership.

“We were duly elected into office, and only a court of law has the authority to remove us. Therefore, we remain the legitimate leaders of the PDP in Sokoto State,” he said.

He also referenced ongoing leadership disputes within the party at the national level, noting that such issues, which are currently before the Supreme Court, do not affect the tenure or legitimacy of the state executive committee.
