On Saturday, Nigerians nationwide turned out to vote for a new president, as Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) was stepping down. In the early hours of Wednesday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the 2023 presidential election.

Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, secured victory with 8,794,726 votes. The announcement was made by the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, at the International Collation Centre in Abuja. However, the other leading presidential candidates, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour party, each won in 12 states.
