Unilever Nigeria has reinforced its commitment to gender inclusion and workplace equity by hosting a series of events across its Oregun and Agbara sites to commemorate International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025.

In a statement, the company highlighted its efforts to foster an inclusive environment, bringing together industry professionals and advocates to discuss the impact of diverse leadership on workplace productivity.

“At Unilever, we walk the talk when it comes to inclusion and equity. There is no doubt that having women in leadership and key roles leads to a healthier and more productive workplace,” said Tobi Adeniyi, Managing Director of Unilever Nigeria.

“I am committed to taking necessary action to shape an ecosystem where everyone has the opportunity to thrive,” Adeniyi added.

Panel Discussion: Empowering Women Through Action

A key highlight of the celebration was a panel discussion themed “Accelerating Action Through Empowering Experiences,” where industry leaders underscored the need for concrete steps toward workplace equity.

Folake Ogundipe, National Finance Director of Unilever Nigeria, praised the company’s gender-inclusive policies and urged businesses to actively promote diversity.

Ibukun Oyejide, Group Chief Financial Officer of Access Bank Plc, emphasized the importance of financial independence and leadership development for women. She encouraged women to pursue leadership roles boldly, stating, “Never doubt your abilities and draw inspiration from deep-rooted values and a sense of purpose.”

Nigerian film producer and co-founder of Inkblot Productions, Zulumoke Oyibo, highlighted the power of storytelling in shaping gender inclusion narratives. “Representation matters. The more we see diverse women in leadership, the more we normalize inclusion and inspire future generations,” Oyibo said.

Renowned singer and actor Waje Iruobe spoke on the challenges women face in the entertainment industry and called for “deliberate support systems” to empower women. “Empowerment comes from creating opportunities to support each other,” she added.

Unilever’s Gender-Inclusive Policies

The event concluded with a call to action, urging organizations to accelerate gender equity through mentorship, policymaking, and the creation of inclusive work environments. Attendees also participated in a sip-and-paint session, fostering networking and relaxation.

Unilever Nigeria reiterated its commitment to gender equity, highlighting several progressive policies, including:

  • Menstrual health leave
  • 16 weeks of maternity leave
  • On-site lactation and childcare facilities

The company’s initiatives align with its broader goal of fostering a workplace where all employees, regardless of gender, can thrive and contribute meaningfully.
