President Bola Tinubu Re-elected as ECOWAS Chairman

President Bola Tinubu has been re-elected as the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The re-election took place during the 65th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Sunday.

In his address at the event, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of addressing insecurity and stabilizing the region. He highlighted the need for meeting the recommendations set forth by ministers of defence and finance to operationalize the ECOWAS Standby Force (ESF) in combating terrorism.

“As we move to operationalise the ECOWAS Standby Force (ESF) in combating terrorism, I must emphasise that the success of this plan requires not only strong political will but also substantial financial resources,” Tinubu stated. He urged member states to make extra commitments to provide the necessary resources for stabilizing the region.
