Gombe, Nigeria – In response to the removal of fuel subsidies and to alleviate the economic impact on its workers, the Gombe State Government has unveiled a N10,000 pay increase for all employees in the state.

Malam Manassah Jatau, the Deputy Governor of Gombe, revealed this development during a press briefing in the state. He highlighted that the salary increment forms part of the government’s commitment to mitigating the adverse effects of the subsidy reduction on its workforce.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s concern for the welfare of civil servants and residents of the state, particularly since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, was underscored by Jatau.

Since the fuel subsidy removal, the government has distributed palliatives to 30,000 beneficiaries throughout the state.

The N10,000 pay raise applies to both state and local government employees and will take effect from August onwards. When questioned about the duration of the increment, Jatau indicated that there is currently no time limit for the N10,000 increase.

Jatau expressed admiration for the contributions of state employees, recognizing them as the driving force behind the government’s policy implementation and overall progress.

“We are ready to ensure an atmosphere that is conducive for them to contribute their own part to the development of the state and the nation,” Jatau affirmed.

He urged workers to reciprocate by adhering to the law and supporting the government’s policies and projects. Furthermore, he encouraged residents who have not yet benefited from the palliatives to exercise patience, assuring them of future interventions as resources allow.

“I call on all residents of the state, especially those who are yet to benefit from the palliatives, to be patient, as we shall continue to consider bringing more interventions in the near future within available resources,” Jatau added.
