Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming 2023 general elections, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, extended his congratulations to the PDP on the occasion of its 25th anniversary. He acknowledged the party’s positive impact on Nigeria’s socio-economic and political development and expressed optimism about its resurgence.
In a statement released on Friday, Atiku Abubakar declared, “the PDP is the progenitor of our contemporary democracy, and therefore, the party shall ensure that democracy does not only survive in Nigeria, but that the country thrives through it.”
Atiku, who is one of the founding fathers of the PDP, took pride in nurturing the party from its inception to becoming a pivotal force for socio-political and economic development in Nigeria. He emphasized the significant role the PDP played during its 16-year tenure at the helm of the country’s affairs, setting benchmarks for positive growth in the economy and other critical areas of national life.
He noted, “Of course, the PDP took a leading role in the deconstruction of military rule in Nigeria, and the peculiarities of our contemporary experiences both within Nigeria and other countries in Africa demand that the PDP should, once again, rise to the occasion in canceling the economic hardship and other structural deficiencies that directly bear negatively on our people in the past nearly eight and a half years.”
Atiku expressed his unwavering confidence in the PDP’s ability to stage a comeback and provide Nigerians with a responsive government. He concluded his statement by reminiscing about the period when the PDP held the reins of government in Nigeria.
The PDP, once the ruling party, celebrated its 25th anniversary as it continues to play a significant role in Nigerian politics.
