Tragedy struck in the late hours of Saturday when an 18-seater commercial bus collided with a moving truck in the Gbagada area of Lagos, resulting in the loss of three lives and numerous injuries.

Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), confirmed the incident.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred at approximately 10 pm and was attributed to reckless driving.

Oke-Osanyitolu reported, “Following a distress call received at 22:01 hrs through the agency’s 112/767 toll-free lines, LASEMA activated the Lagos State Emergency Response Plans, with an arrival time of 22:17 hrs.”

Upon the arrival of the Agency’s LRT at the accident scene, it was observed that an 18-seater commercial bus, a white Mazda with registration number JJJ-844YA, fully loaded and en route from Oshodi to Ajah, lost control while in motion and collided with a moving truck from behind.

Tragically, three of the 18 passengers (2 adult males and 1 adult female) lost their lives immediately, while others sustained various injuries of varying degrees.

Out of the injured passengers, seven in total, three were promptly given pre-hospital care and transported to Gbagada General Hospital for further treatment by the agency’s paramedics.

The deceased were carefully handled and then conveyed to the morgue by officials from the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU).

To prevent further incidents, the damaged vehicle was subsequently removed from the busy road.
