Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has issued an appeal to leaders in the state, especially political officeholders, urging them to consistently promote peace by handling sensitive matters with wisdom and caution. He emphasized that fostering development and progress within their respective regions relies on maintaining peace.

Governor Eno made this appeal during a “Thank You Visit” to Akwa Ibom South, also known as the Eket Senatorial District. The event took place at the residence of Chief Nduese Essien, the leader of the Senatorial district, in Ntaisip, Ikot Ibiok, Eket LGA.

He assured the people that his administration would actively work on development projects designed to positively impact rural communities and further enhance peace and harmony throughout the state.

Addressing concerns raised by stakeholders from the district’s twelve LGAs, Governor Eno assured that the State Government is ready to commence the construction of the Orukim-Unyenge road in Mbo LGA, providing access to the Ibom Deep Seaport project site. He also pledged to initiate the Ikot Ubo-Nsit Atai road project to improve transportation for residents traveling from the Eket area to the Victor Attah Airport.

The governor expressed his gratitude to the people of the Senatorial District for their overwhelming support during the last general elections. He emphasized that this visit was part of his commitment to maintain a lasting relationship with the people, extending beyond the election campaigns.

Governor Eno stated, “Every year, we go to them and appeal for votes, but after that, we go and never care to return. These ones do not feel the impact of Government. Let’s return to them and provide schools, markets, and hospitals. That is why we have resolved that we will not take your votes for granted. We will put in all our efforts to serve Akwa Ibom State, to ensure that we do the best we can to the glory of God.”

In response to concerns about the “One Project-Per-Local Government Initiative” of his administration, Governor Eno encouraged stakeholders to set aside political leadership struggles and collaborate harmoniously in selecting projects. This approach is vital for the government to realize its development plans at the grassroots level.

The governor also announced plans to appoint a Special Assistant on Youth from each Federal Constituency to work alongside the Senior Special Assistant on Youth in addressing youth-related issues in the state. Deputy Governor Senator Akon Eyakenyi, in her goodwill message, asked the people for time, understanding, and cooperation, assuring them that the Governor Umo Eno-led administration is fully prepared to serve the people.
