LONDON, Oct. 16, 2024 — The English Football Association (FA) has named Thomas Tuchel as the new manager of the England senior men’s national team, with the German set to officially take charge on January 1, 2025.

In an official statement released Wednesday, the FA confirmed the appointment of the UEFA Champions League-winning coach, saying, “The FA has announced that UEFA Champions League winner Thomas Tuchel is the new England senior men’s head coach and will be assisted by internationally renowned English coach Anthony Barry.”

Tuchel, who has an impressive managerial résumé with stints at top European clubs like Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Borussia Dortmund, is widely recognized for his tactical acumen and ability to transform teams into strong contenders on the global stage. His experience and success at the highest levels of football were key factors in the FA’s decision to bring him on board.

Anthony Barry, a highly respected English coach, will join Tuchel’s team as assistant coach. Barry previously worked with Tuchel during his tenure at Chelsea and is known for his expertise in defensive organization and set-piece strategy.

The appointment comes at a critical time for England as they aim to rebuild following a mixed performance in recent international competitions. Tuchel’s task will be to guide the Three Lions into a new era, with the immediate challenge being the European Championships in 2028.

Tuchel is set to replace current manager Gareth Southgate, who has held the position since 2016.
