Political leaders from the South East region have issued a strong warning to the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), urging the party not to reject their nominated candidate for the position of National Secretary. The leaders, speaking under various political and socio-cultural platforms, stressed that any attempt to sideline their nominee would be seen as a direct affront to the region’s commitment and longstanding loyalty to the party.“The South East has consistently stood with the PDP, even in the most challenging times. We will not accept any attempt to undermine our rightful representation in the party’s national leadership,” a senior party stakeholder said during a press briefing in Enugu on Monday. They cautioned that rejecting their nominee could further alienate the zone and deepen existing grievances within the party ranks, especially amid ongoing internal restructuring efforts ahead of the next election cycle. The PDP has not officially responded to the concerns raised by the South East bloc, but party insiders say consultations are ongoing.Analysts view the dispute as a test of the PDP’s ability to manage internal diversity and regional interests as it seeks to regain political ground nationally.
