The Gada Divisional Police Headquarters in Sokoto State has recovered 25 cattle suspected to be stolen or strayed, following a tip-off from local authorities. The animals were found in a dense forest near the Sabon Birni Local Government Area, a region known for its challenging terrain and occasional security issues.
Police spokesperson Ahmad Rufai said the operation was launched after Alhaji Muhammad Kyari and traditional leaders alerted the authorities about the presence of unclaimed cattle. Officers from the Gada Division were promptly dispatched and recovered the animals without incident.
The cattle are currently secured at the Gada Division Headquarters. The police are urging livestock owners who may be missing animals to come forward with valid proof of ownership for verification and collection.
“This recovery effort demonstrates our ongoing commitment to protecting the lives and property of our citizens,” Rufai said.
Authorities are also calling on residents of Gada and surrounding areas to help spread the information to ensure a swift and fair handover process.
