The ongoing crisis within the Rivers State government took a tumultuous turn on Monday as the State Assembly reportedly endorsed an impeachment notice against Governor Siminalaye Fubara.
In a session chaired by Speaker Rt Hon Martins Amaewhule and attended by a significant number of members, the House Leader, Hon Edison Ehie, and those with allegiance to the governor were suspended.
The explosion that occurred at the Assembly on Sunday night was rumored to be a deliberate attempt to obstruct lawmakers from accessing the Assembly on Monday.
At the early hour of 7 a.m., some lawmakers managed to enter the House and immediately convened a plenary session where they collectively endorsed the impeachment notice against the governor.
Notably, the entire Moscow Road leading to the Rivers State House of Assembly has been cordoned off by armed police officers.
