LAFIA, May 14, 2025 — The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old woman, Fatima Salisu, for allegedly smuggling ammunition through the Keana and Doma local government areas of the state en route to Katsina, where she reportedly resides.
The arrest, described as a major breakthrough in curbing arms trafficking in the region, was confirmed in a statement released Thursday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel.
According to the statement, the arrest followed credible intelligence which prompted Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima J. Mohammed, to deploy the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for immediate action.
“The team acted with precision, leading to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of 400 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition and 81 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition,” Nansel stated.
He added that Salisu is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle a suspected arms trafficking network potentially linked to armed banditry and terrorist operations.
Police said the operation reflects their renewed commitment to disrupting the supply of illicit weapons and ensuring safety across Nasarawa and neighbouring states.
Investigations are continuing as authorities work to trace the origin and intended recipients of the seized ammunition.
