The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted full accreditation to 18 academic programmes at Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, in what the institution has hailed as a significant milestone in its academic growth.
The approval followed a comprehensive accreditation exercise conducted by the Commission in October and November 2024. The news was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by the university’s Head of Directorate of Information, Bode Olofinmuagun.
According to the statement, the NUC’s letter of approval, dated April 30, 2025, was signed by Abraham Chundusu, Acting Director of Accreditation, on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the Commission.
“The development also reaffirms EKSU’s growing reputation as the best state university in Nigeria according to the Times Higher Education 2025 universities ranking,” Olofinmuagun noted.
The newly accredited programmes include postgraduate and undergraduate courses in Administration, Business Administration (M.Sc.), Personnel Management, Finance (M.Sc.), Public Administration (MPA), and Law. Also accredited are courses in Arts and Humanities—Arabic Studies, Islamic Studies, Philosophy—as well as Engineering and Technology-related fields such as Civil, Electrical and Electronic, and Computer Engineering.
Further programmes include Geology, Psychology, and several education-focused disciplines: Building and Woodwork Technology Education, Electrical and Electronic Technology Education, Metal and Auto Mechanic Technology Education, and Christian Religious Studies Education.
Reacting to the development, EKSU Vice Chancellor, Professor Babatola Ayodele, described the accreditation as “a dream come true” and a result of “tireless efforts by both academic and administrative staff.”
“This achievement positions EKSU even more strongly to meet the educational needs of Nigerian youth in critical and emerging areas of study,” Ayodele said.
The Vice Chancellor extended appreciation to key stakeholders, including the Governor of Ekiti State and Visitor to the University, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji; the Chancellor, Dr. Tunji Olowolafe; and the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Akin Oyebode, for their commitment to the university’s global advancement.
This development further cements EKSU’s standing as a hub of academic excellence among Nigeria’s state universities.
