President Bola Tinubu has made an appeal to the justices of the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) in Abuja, requesting that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, and his party be excluded from any potential rerun of the presidential election. According to Tinubu, only himself and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, are constitutionally qualified to re-contest.
In his final written address responding to the petition of Mr. Obi and the LP, President Tinubu argued that if the justices nullify the February 25, 2023, presidential election, Mr. Obi and his party would not be eligible to participate in any re-contest.
However, in a counterargument, Mr. Peter Obi urged the five-member panel of the PEPC not to undermine the expressed will of the people in the February 25 presidential election. He stressed that they should promptly remove President Tinubu from office without any further delay.
