In a landmark ruling today, the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court handed down a double life imprisonment sentence to Dr. Olufemi Olaleye, the Medical Director of Optical Cancer Care Foundation. The conviction stems from his heinous act of defiling his wife’s 16-year-old niece.

The court proceedings, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), saw Justice Rahman Oshodi presiding over the case. Oshodi firmly declared that the prosecution successfully established a compelling case against Olaleye, who faced charges of both defilement and sexual assault by penetration.

DAILY POST previously covered the case, where Olaleye had initially pleaded not guilty upon his arraignment.

Nonetheless, Justice Oshodi emphasized that the evidence presented in the courtroom was undeniably persuasive and left no room for doubt regarding the defendant’s guilt. Key to this conviction was the defendant’s own confessional statement, made in the presence of his lawyer, Mr. Olalekan Buruji, and the Officer in Charge at Anthony Police Station. In his statement, Olaleye expressed regret for his actions, leaving no doubt as to his guilt.

The judge further pointed out that the oral statement, which the defendant had later denied, bore the official seal of the NBA (Nigerian Bar Association) from Mr. Buruji and was, therefore, irrefutable. Justice Oshodi concluded by sternly addressing the convicted offender, labeling him a “dangerous offender” and calling upon him to feel the shame that his actions deserve.
