The Labour Party has issued a statement in response to Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka’s recent comment suggesting that the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, did not win the February 25 presidential election. According to the party, Soyinka’s statement was based on information provided to him by those with an “Emilokan sentiment.”

Soyinka had expressed doubts about Peter Obi’s claim of victory in the election, stating, “I can say categorically that Peter Obi’s party came third, not even second, and the leadership knew it.”

In its response, the Labour Party described Soyinka’s comment as a personal opinion and noted that it disagreed with his assessment. The party emphasized that it had broken the monopoly of power held by the two major parties and expressed gratitude to Soyinka for acknowledging this achievement.

The statement also questioned Soyinka’s silence on issues such as ballot box snatching and attacks on supporters during the election.
