The Kano State Government has taken a major step toward enhancing healthcare delivery with the distribution of 484 laptop computers to apex Primary Healthcare Centres across all wards in the state’s 44 local government areas. The initiative, part of the government’s digitisation drive, was flagged off by Governor Abba Yusuf during the 2nd Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health Week ceremony in Kumbotso Local Government Area on Monday.
Governor Yusuf, in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, highlighted that the laptop distribution forms a critical part of the administration’s efforts to modernise and digitise healthcare facilities, ensuring efficient service delivery across the state.
As part of its healthcare reforms, the state government has also completed extensive renovations on major healthcare facilities, including Sir Muhammadu Sanusi Hospital, Hasiya Bayero Hospital, Nuhu Bamalli Hospital, and the Emergency Unit of the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.
To further bolster healthcare services, solar power installations have been set up at the State Primary Healthcare Management Board headquarters and its six zonal offices. This move aims to provide uninterrupted power supply, enhancing operational efficiency at these facilities.
Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for healthcare workers and ensuring access to quality care for all Kano residents. The efforts, he noted, are part of a broader strategy to reduce maternal and child mortality rates and improve healthcare outcomes in the state.
The Governor also announced plans to renovate hundreds of secondary and primary healthcare facilities, which have been allocated significant funding in the 2025 annual budget.
“These efforts are meant to ensure access to quality and affordable healthcare services for the people of Kano State, irrespective of their socio-economic status,” the statement read.
Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s resolve to prioritise the health sector as part of its broader development agenda, promising continued investments in initiatives to modernise Kano’s healthcare system and improve the lives of its citizens.
The ongoing digitisation and infrastructure upgrades mark a significant step forward in transforming the state’s healthcare landscape, ensuring that residents receive accessible and affordable care.
