Kano, Nigeria – April 29, 2025 — In a move to enhance professionalism and improve investigative policing, the Kano State Police Command has rolled out a specialised capacity-building programme for officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The training, which commenced on Tuesday, aligns with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who has called for enhanced skill development to strengthen the Nigerian Police Force’s investigative and prosecutorial efficiency.
According to a statement released on Wednesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the initiative is designed to build a motivated and technically proficient police force capable of addressing contemporary security challenges.
The programme featured key presentations on pressing ethical and operational issues within the force. Assistant Commissioner of Police CID, ACP Muhammad Wada Jarma, led a session on “Eliminating Corruption in the NPF,” while ACP Mohammed B. Suleiman of the X-Squad delivered a lecture on “Extortion and Other Unethical Conduct.” Mr. Jessy John from the Cyber-Safe Youth Initiative Organization presented on “Cyber-security Awareness,” highlighting the growing need for digital literacy in modern policing.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, praised the resource persons and encouraged participating officers to seize the opportunity to upgrade their investigative capabilities. “This is not only a chance to learn but to refresh your knowledge and embrace new developments in the field,” Bakori said.
In recognition of his leadership in promoting cyber-awareness within the force, CP Bakori received an award from the Cyber-Safe Youth Initiative. He dedicated the award to the officers of the Kano Command, reaffirming his commitment to innovation and excellence. “This award will further motivate our resolve to confront emerging security challenges and reinforce our commitment to protecting citizens in the digital age,” he said.
Bakori added that similar training programmes would be organised regularly across departments, underscoring the evolving nature of law enforcement and the need for continuous learning.
The command reiterated its goal of enhancing investigative efficiency through such initiatives, with the broader aim of ensuring a safer and more secure Kano for all residents.
