In a bid to ensure a safe and seamless Easter celebration, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Lagos Sector Command has deployed officers, operational vehicles, and emergency response teams across the state.
The deployment includes two newly donated patrol vehicles from the Lagos State Government, provided through the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, according to the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat. He made the announcement during a media briefing held along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as part of the corps’ festive season monitoring tour.
In a statement released Friday by the Sector Public Education Officer, Elizabeth Jayeola, Hamzat affirmed the command’s preparedness to maintain traffic order and enhance safety throughout the 2025 Easter period.
“Both Regular and Special Marshals have been strategically positioned across major highways, inner roads, and festive routes to ease vehicular movement and ensure safety for all road users,” Hamzat said.
The corps has also stationed ambulances along high-risk corridors to facilitate rapid response in the event of emergencies. The sector commander noted that collaboration with other traffic and emergency agencies is ongoing to ensure smooth entry and exit from Lagos during the holiday.
“There will be standby ambulances positioned along critical corridors for swift emergency response and rescue operations,” he said. “We are also collaborating with relevant traffic and emergency stakeholders.”
To deter reckless driving, mobile courts will be operational throughout the festivities, focusing on high-risk offences such as speeding, drunk driving, the use of expired tyres, failure to use seat belts, and phone use while driving.
“Mobile court operations will be active to swiftly prosecute traffic offenders,” Hamzat stated. “We are particularly targeting offences that pose the highest risks to public safety.”
He further appealed to motorists to comply with traffic regulations and prioritize safety. “Drivers must avoid driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. One night of thrill should not lead to a lifetime of regret. Fix your wipers, drive cautiously, and remember, your family awaits you,” he urged.
The commander also called on pedestrians and vulnerable road users to stay alert and avoid unsafe crossing behaviors, emphasizing shared responsibility in achieving a crash-free celebration.
“FRSC Lagos remains committed to a crash-free celebration and encourages all residents to play their part in making this possible,” the statement concluded.
