The Enugu State Waste Management Authority (ESWAMA) has announced the cancellation of its monthly clean-up exercise, originally scheduled for Saturday, October 26, 2024. The decision was made to accommodate state-wide funeral rites in honor of the late President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.

In a statement released on Friday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Water and Waste, Andreas Gebauer, confirmed the cancellation, noting that Enugu residents are encouraged to continue maintaining a clean environment despite the change. Gebauer emphasized the importance of proper waste disposal, advising residents to bag their waste correctly to simplify the work of waste collectors.

The late Chief Iwuanyanwu, a prominent businessman and respected leader, passed away on July 25, 2024, at age 82, after a brief illness. His family confirmed his passing, and preparations are underway for a series of funeral rites that will begin on Tuesday, October 29, culminating in his burial on November 1. The funeral proceedings are anticipated to include full honors, as announced by Senator Ben Obi, chairman of the Central Burial Committee.

Chief Iwuanyanwu’s contributions to Nigerian society and the Igbo community, particularly through his leadership in Ohaneze Ndigbo, have been widely recognized, drawing tributes from prominent figures across the nation.
