In a unanimous decision, the Benue State House of Assembly issued a vote of confidence on Friday in favor of the state governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, and the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Aondona Dajoh.
The motion leading to the vote of confidence was initiated by Hon. Simon Gabo, representing Mata State constituency of Ushongo local government area. Gabo lauded Governor Alia for implementing policies and programs that have rekindled the confidence of Benue people in governance since taking office.
According to a statement from the chief press secretary to Governor Alia, Mr. Tersoo Kula, Hon. Gabo highlighted the governor’s achievements within six months in office, including stabilizing salary payments to workers and pensions to retirees, the comprehensive rehabilitation of the old Assembly Complex, and the successful completion of several road projects. Gabo commended the governor’s effective and transparent utilization of state resources, emphasizing that these accomplishments were achieved without external borrowing.
Seconding the motion, the House Chief Whip, Hon. Peter Ipusu, commended Governor Alia for prioritizing the welfare of Assembly members, providing quality vehicles, and ensuring their overall well-being. Ipusu also expressed support for Speaker Dajoh, acknowledging his effective leadership of the House within a short period.
After a voice vote, Speaker Rt. Hon. Aondona Dajoh appreciated the House for the vote of confidence, noting that it would undoubtedly boost the governor’s morale for higher performance. The unanimous endorsement reflects the assembly’s recognition of the achievements and leadership qualities demonstrated by Governor Alia and Speaker Dajoh in their respective roles.
