Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, took decisive action on Monday to ease the impact of fuel subsidy removal by announcing a 50% reduction in transportation fares within the state-owned transport system. Additionally, the governor revealed that commercial transporters across the metropolis were considering implementing a 25% fare reduction.
Speaking to newsmen after the Security Council meeting held at the State House in Ikeja on Monday, Governor Sanwo-Olu announced that all government-owned transportation vehicles would implement the 50% fare reduction starting from Wednesday, 2 August.
In further efforts to alleviate the hardship caused by the subsidy removal, the government will commence the distribution of food items to support vulnerable individuals in the state.
Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the 50% reduction in transportation costs, introduced by the government, would significantly lighten the financial burden on citizens. He also pledged to provide more buses for civil servants to facilitate their movement while reducing their transportation expenses.
The governor’s proactive measures aim to mitigate the challenges posed by the removal of fuel subsidy and demonstrate the government’s commitment to alleviating the economic impact on the people of Lagos State.
