An indigene of Anambra State, Edwin Chukwujekwu, has been elected Assistant Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bolari East Ward, in Gombe Local Government Area of Gombe State.

Chukwujekwu emerged through consensus during the party’s ward congress, alongside other ward executive members.

Reacting to his election, the Assistant Secretary-elect described his emergence as a reflection of the APC’s commitment to internal democracy, inclusiveness and national unity. He said he was pleased to be counted among grassroots leaders of the party, adding that his election demonstrates that the APC accommodates Nigerians from different backgrounds.

“I feel happy being among the party leaders at the grassroots. My election reflects the nationality of the party and I advise my other Igbo kinsmen and women to try to play along with the party,” he said.

Chukwujekwu noted that his experience over the past four years in the state shows that non-indigenes are fully integrated within the party structure. He urged other non-indigenes residing in Gombe to participate actively in party politics, stressing that the APC remains open to all Nigerians regardless of origin.

He also commended Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for what he described as an inclusive leadership style, citing the appointment of an Igbo indigene as Special Assistant on Inter-Community Affairs as evidence.

Presenting the list of ward executives from the 10 wards in the local government area, Danjuma Dabo, Chairman of the Ward and Local Government Congress Committee, said the exercise was conducted in line with the party’s constitution. He noted that election through consensus is provided for in the APC constitution and expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the congress.

Dabo called on party stakeholders to maintain the unity displayed during the exercise, describing it as crucial to strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
