In a significant political development, Sadiq Abbas, a thirty-two-year-old, and the son of Tafida Abbas, a first-class chief and the Emir of Muri in the northern senatorial district of Taraba State, secured victory in the supplementary election for the Jalingo/Yoro/Zing federal constituency in Taraba State. If officially inaugurated, Abbas will become the youngest member of the House of Representatives in the upcoming 10th National Assembly.

The election, initially declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on February 4, 2024, aimed to fill the void left by the passing of Hon. Ismaila Maihanchi shortly after receiving his certificate of return in the 2023 general election. Professor Olarenwaju Oladipo of the Federal University Wukari, serving as the returning officer, announced the results, declaring Sadiq Abbas of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner.

According to the official results, the PDP garnered 19,681 votes, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) secured 16,379 votes, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate received 12,662 votes, and the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) candidate obtained 3,646 votes.

Expressing gratitude to the constituents of Jalingo/Yoro/Zing federal constituency, Sadiq Abbas, upon being declared the winner, thanked them for entrusting him with the opportunity to serve. He emphasized that this mandate, particularly as a young politician, presents an opportunity to deliver quality legislation and provide diligent representation for the people who have been without representation since the beginning of the 10th assembly due to the untimely demise of Ismaila Maihanchi.
