The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has begun deploying 1,880 prepaid meters to Band A customers as part of its Meter Asset Funds (MAF) initiative, targeting improved billing accuracy and customer satisfaction.
This effort, announced in a statement by YEDC’s Communications Officer, Blessing Tunoh, aligns with the Presidential Metering Initiative and aims to close the metering gap among unmetered Band A customers, who stopped receiving electricity subsidies in April.
“YEDC is pleased to announce the commencement of providing meters under the Meter Acquisition Funds programme,” the statement said. “This initiative, targeting unmetered Band A customers within YEDC’s franchise area, is part of our ongoing efforts to provide accurate billing and improve customer satisfaction.”
The rollout, approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, will see the installation of 1,500 single-phase meters and 380 three-phase meters between November 18 and 30, 2024. These meters will be installed at no cost to customers by certified vendors.
Launched on June 13, 2024, the MAF scheme is a key pillar of the Presidential Metering Initiative aimed at accelerating nationwide metering for electricity consumers.
YEDC has called on all Band A customers to cooperate with installers visiting their homes and business premises during the exercise.
“We are committed to enhancing electricity distribution quality and providing reliable, transparent services to all customers,” the company added.
This metering initiative is expected to bolster customer trust and ensure equitable billing for electricity consumption.
