Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to bridging the state’s housing deficit through strategic partnerships and social housing schemes that prioritize the poor and vulnerable.

Speaking on Monday at Rigachikun in Igabi Local Government Area during the commissioning of 100 free houses built for widows by Family Homes Funds Limited (FHFL) under its Social Housing Project, the governor said the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s nationwide empowerment agenda.

Sani explained that the Ward Development Plan, launched by the President to empower at least 1,500 people in each of Nigeria’s 8,809 wards, would “have a positive impact on the poor and vulnerable,” describing it as “unprecedented in the history of Nigeria.”

He added that his government would soon convene a state-wide town hall meeting involving elected officials and key stakeholders to identify the specific needs of local communities.

“Access to safe, affordable and secure housing is the foundation of human dignity. We have been partnering with local and international investors to address our housing deficit head-on,” Sani said.

The governor noted that the state had already distributed houses to families affected by banditry under the Qatar Sannabil Project a collaboration between the Kaduna State Government and Qatar Charity.

He also highlighted ongoing housing developments, including the 3,319-hectare Nuru Suraj Ungwar Dosa New Extension Layout and Urban Shelter’s 200-hectare project in Millennium City, Kaduna.

Sani revealed that several federal agencies including the Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Customs Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, and Federal Housing Authority were undertaking mass housing projects in the state, attributing their participation to the “conducive atmosphere and incentives” his government has provided.

He recalled that the recently concluded Kaduna International Housing Exhibition brought together developers, investors, and policymakers to explore practical housing solutions for Northern Nigeria.

“The exhibition provided a platform to explore emerging technologies and discuss strategies for affordable housing delivery,” the governor added.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Family Homes Funds Limited, Mr. Ademola Adebise, described the housing initiative as “a symbol of renewed hope and restored dignity” for the widows who benefited from the project.

He said the Social Housing Project represents a new model of housing delivery in Nigeria one that integrates home ownership with livelihood support, skills training, and environmentally friendly construction.

“These homes are energy-efficient, incorporating solar energy and sustainable materials. We are not only reducing costs for the families but also setting a standard for green living,” Adebise explained.

He added that the company used Expanded Polystyrene System (EPS) technology to achieve quicker, cost-effective, and eco-friendly construction, in line with Nigeria’s climate-resilient development goals.

Adebise further disclosed that each of the 100 beneficiaries underwent livelihood training to help them start small-scale businesses, while each home was designed with a cottage yard for subsistence farming and income generation.

Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, who was present at the event, noted that the project was conceived under former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and sustained by President Bola Tinubu’s government.

“Government is a work in progress. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is determined to complete and even improve upon every good project started by his brother,” Bagudu said.

He praised the collaborative effort between the Federal Government, Kaduna State Government, Igabi Local Government Council, and women’s cooperatives, which initially proposed the idea through the Ministry of Women Affairs.

Bagudu also commended Governor Sani for his “relentless commitment to the welfare of Kaduna residents,” noting that the governor’s hands-on leadership was key to the project’s completion.

The 100 free housing units for widows at Rigachikun form part of broader efforts to improve living standards, empower women, and promote social inclusion across Kaduna State.

Governor Sani concluded by reaffirming his administration’s resolve to sustain partnerships with federal agencies, development institutions, and private investors to make affordable housing accessible to all.

“Our goal is to make Kaduna a model for inclusive and sustainable housing development in Nigeria,” he said.
