President Bola Tinubu has underscored the importance of a progressive and inclusive democracy, focusing on addressing poverty through job opportunities for youths and providing quality education for all Nigerian children. During a meeting with the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos on Thursday, President Tinubu expressed his commitment to supporting a democracy that is ideologically determined and dedicated to eliminating poverty.

In a statement by presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu expressed support for the establishment of the National Institute of Progressive Studies (NIPS) by the APC. The Institute is envisioned to conduct rigorous research and educate party members on democratic principles and good governance, thereby providing a distinct identity for the party.

President Tinubu, acknowledging past challenges faced by democracy, voiced optimism about the country’s promising future. He stated, “Democracy has faced challenges in the past, but I believe in a promising future for our country. We will deliver it.” He emphasized the need for collaboration with various government arms and commended the party’s leadership for promoting essential ideals.

The President urged the party’s leadership to focus on reaching more youths and women in the ongoing e-registration and digital membership validation exercise, scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2024. He affirmed his unwavering support for the progressive ideological stance of the party, pledging to pursue it with vigor.

Expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support during campaigns, electoral victory, and the Supreme Court affirmation of his presidency, President Tinubu acknowledged the challenges of his office that require increased focus, dedication, and time.

President Tinubu also expressed concern about the high number of out-of-school children in the country, advocating for the establishment of more schools, teacher recruitment, and providing at least one meal a day for school children. The National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, assured the President that the NWC is strategizing to secure success in the upcoming bye-elections in February 2024, aiming to win support and secure all available seats.
