Abeokuta – In a press conference on Thursday at the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Commissioner Ade Akinsanya announced the state government’s approval for the construction of five new roads. This development is part of the ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure across the state.
The newly approved roads are located in various regions:
- Alagbole-Ajuwon
- Akute-Ajuwon
- Toyin-Giwahercules Road
- Oke-Aro (all in Ifo Local Government Area, Ogun Central Senatorial District)
- Oke-Erinja and Erinja in Yewa South
- Awokoya Road in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area
Akinsanya also provided an update on the reconstruction of the remaining 17 kilometers of the Akute-Ijoko road, stating that the project will be executed in two phases. The first phase will address flooding issues from Akute to Oke Aro, followed by the section from Oke Aro to Ijoko.
Regarding the Lagos-Ota-Sango-Abeokuta road, Akinsanya revealed that the reconstruction contract was awarded to Craneburg Construction Company on March 28. Although administrative processes are still ongoing at the federal level, the state aims to commence work soon. The project will be carried out in phases, starting from Sango to Abeokuta, with four teams working simultaneously.
“The job will be done in phases beginning from Sango to Abeokuta with four gangs working at the same time. Though there are still some paperwork to be done, the governor decided to start the reconstruction of the road to relieve the people of the pain they go through on a daily basis,” said Akinsanya.
The commissioner also highlighted several other infrastructure projects facilitated by the governor in collaboration with the federal government. These include the Laderin Train Station road project and the reconstruction of the Sango-Atan-Owode-Idi-Iroko road, which has long been in the planning stages. The project includes the construction of two bridges to alleviate traffic congestion at key points.
Akinsanya attributed the frequent road damage to improper waste disposal and construction on waterways, leading to flooding. He assured residents that the government is aware of the road conditions across all local government areas and is prioritizing repairs based on specific criteria, urging citizens to be patient as efforts continue to improve the road network.
