Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced that the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line has transported more than five million passengers since it began operations two years ago.
In a statement posted on his official X handle on Wednesday, Sanwo-Olu described the rail service as a major milestone in the state’s efforts to modernise public transport, highlighting that the Blue Line had operated without a single accident since its launch in 2023.
“In these two years, the Blue Line has carried more than five million passengers safely, without a single accident,” the governor said. “Trains now run every 10 minutes, making over 90 trips each day. Journeys that once took much longer have become faster and easier.”
He credited the achievement to “dedication and purpose,” noting that the success of the project reflects Lagosians’ trust and support. “This project belongs to all of us, and it is your belief in a greater Lagos that makes progress possible,” he added.
To mark the second anniversary of the Blue Line, the governor announced a 50 per cent reduction in fares for Thursday, September 4, 2025.
“I am pleased to announce a 50% reduction in fares on the Blue Line for tomorrow. If you have not yet experienced the Blue Line, I encourage you to take a ride and see what we have built together,” Sanwo-Olu said.
The LRMT Blue Line, inaugurated in 2023, is a key component of Lagos State’s broader plan to expand its mass transit network and ease the city’s notorious traffic congestion. The project is part of ongoing efforts to improve urban mobility and provide affordable, efficient, and safe transportation for residents.
