Ibadan, Nigeria — The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has expressed profound grief over the passing of its Chairman, Isaac Omodewu, describing his death as a devastating blow and a monumental loss not only to the party but to the entire nation.

Omodewu, a lawyer from Otu, passed away in the late hours of Sunday, August 19, 2024, in the United States, where he had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness since November 2023. The news of his death was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday, August 20, 2024, by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, and made available to journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The statement conveyed the party’s shock and disbelief at the untimely demise of Omodewu, who had served in various ministries as a Commissioner during the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi’s two-term administration from 2011 to 2019. His passing marks the end of a significant chapter in the history of Oyo APC, where he played a critical role in stabilizing the party during turbulent times.

“A big Iroko has fallen, and a big vacuum has surfaced in our party (APC). Our late chairman was an epitome of humility, kindness, and selflessness,” the statement read. “He emerged as the state chairman during a turbulent period, and he did his best to stabilize the party. It is even more regrettable that he transited at this time when his efforts on total reconciliation have begun to yield full results as desired.”

The statement also highlighted that Omodewu remained in close contact with friends, associates, and key stakeholders of the Oyo APC until his last moments.

The Oyo APC extended its condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Chairman, and all APC members across Nigeria, while also praying for God’s comfort and strength for Omodewu’s immediate family, friends, and associates during this difficult time.

As the party mourns the loss of its leader, the statement emphasizes the deep void left by Omodewu’s departure, acknowledging his pivotal role in the party’s efforts towards unity and reconciliation in Oyo State.
