OPay, a leading fintech company in Nigeria, has expanded its education support initiative after signing Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with four additional tertiary institutions across the country.
The new partner schools include Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, Montgomery Polytechnic, Ikere Ekiti, and Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu Alike Ikwo.
With this latest development, the total number of participating institutions under the programme has risen to 24 nationwide.
The initiative is part of OPay’s ₦1.2 billion, 10-year scholarship scheme aimed at supporting academically strong but financially disadvantaged students across Nigeria. Under the programme, 20 students in each partner institution will receive ₦300,000 annually.
According to the company, the scholarship is need-based and designed to improve access to higher education while reducing financial barriers for students.
Speaking on the expansion, OPay’s Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Itoro Udo, said education remains one of the most powerful tools for social mobility, adding that the company is committed to supporting students with potential but limited financial means.
OPay noted that the programme reflects its broader goal of promoting financial inclusion and educational development in Nigeria.
Established in 2018, the fintech company provides digital payment services including money transfers, bill payments, airtime purchases, and merchant solutions, and operates under CBN licensing with NDIC insurance coverage.
