The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has reiterated its resolve to resist any move by lawmakers loyal to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to impeach the deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa. The opposition party warned its elected members in the Ondo State House Assembly against supporting such an impeachment attempt.
Fatai Adams, the Chairman of Ondo PDP, expressed concerns during a news briefing in Akure, questioning who had the authority to approve the money being spent by the Akeredolu administration. Adams emphasized that only the governor possessed the power to approve expenditures.
In response, Ondo’s Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, dismissed the PDP’s allegations as laughable, asserting that the system’s checks and balances were robust. He pledged that the party would take concrete actions to expose any underhanded actions aimed at depleting the state’s financial resources.
Adams hinted at the PDP’s plan to unveil a compendium of illegal actions taken by government functionaries, exposing attempts to compromise the state’s financial health and acquire assets illegally. He urged Governor Akeredolu to follow the precedent set by his advice to the late President Umaru Yar’Adua and transfer power to the deputy governor in the state’s interest.
The Ondo PDP emphasized its stance against supporting an impeachment move in the absence of the governor, questioning the legitimacy of such actions. Adams concluded by stating that the party would continue to advocate for truth and transparency.
