Akure, April 16 — Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to youth empowerment, pledging to deepen efforts aimed at creating opportunities for young people across the state’s 18 local government areas.
Speaking during an interactive session with youth groups at the International Centre for Culture and Events in Akure on Tuesday, the governor highlighted a range of initiatives already underway and unveiled his administration’s 7-point developmental agenda, tagged ‘Our Ease’. The agenda prioritizes order and security, rural and urban development, technological advancement, healthcare, power, infrastructure, and education.
“Youths remain the backbone of any progressive society. We have provided nano grants as business support to 5,000 youths, engaged 15,000 young people in labour-intensive public workforce programmes, and launched youth skill centres under our One-Youth-One-Skill Scheme,” Aiyedatiwa stated.
He credited the youth with playing a crucial role in his victory during the November 2024 governorship election, expressing gratitude for their overwhelming support across all local government areas. He urged them to continue to embrace the administration’s developmental programmes and steer clear of activities that could undermine the state’s progress.
“This administration is committed to creating an enabling environment to project Ondo State in a positive light and attract much-needed investment. Protest is a democratic right, but it should only come after all avenues for dialogue and negotiation have been exhausted,” he said.
The governor called on young people to channel their talents into nation-building and community development, stressing that the government is resolute in its support for their aspirations.
In his welcome remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Empowerment and Job Creation, Orioye Gbayisemore, commended Aiyedatiwa’s leadership and focus on youth development. He cited ongoing initiatives such as the payment of WAEC fees, scholarship schemes, teacher recruitment, and the One-Youth-One-Skill programme as evidence of the administration’s dedication.
Gbayisemore urged youths to take ownership of the government’s vision and play proactive roles in shaping a progressive Ondo State.
