Nigeria is expanding its port capacity as part of efforts to strengthen its position as a leading regional trade and logistics hub.

The expansion is aimed at improving the country’s ability to handle rising cargo volumes, reduce congestion and enhance the efficiency of the movement of goods through its maritime gateways.

The government and port authorities are pursuing infrastructure upgrades and capacity expansion to support growing domestic and international trade while improving Nigeria’s competitiveness within the West African logistics market.

The move comes as Nigeria seeks to take greater advantage of its strategic location along major international shipping routes and its large consumer market.

Improved port infrastructure is expected to support businesses by reducing delays and logistics costs, while strengthening connections between Nigeria and markets across West and Central Africa.

The expansion forms part of broader efforts to modernise Nigeria’s transport infrastructure and establish the country as a major gateway for regional commerce.
