The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has expressed deep sorrow over recent tragedies in Niger, Borno, and Yobe States, offering condolences and solidarity to the affected communities.
In Niger State, a devastating petrol tanker explosion along the Bida-Agaie-Lapai Highway claimed the lives of 48 individuals and several livestock. The NGF, through a statement signed by its Chairman, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, conveyed heartfelt sympathies to the families of the victims and wished a swift recovery to those injured. The Forum emphasized the critical importance of road safety and urged all road users to exercise caution at all times.
Simultaneously, in Borno and Yobe States, severe flooding has wreaked havoc, displacing thousands of residents in areas such as Maiduguri and Jere in Borno, and several local government areas in Yobe. The flooding was triggered by the collapse of a dike and the overflow of the Alau Dam in Borno State. The NGF expressed firm solidarity with the governments and people of the affected states, commending the swift response of federal and state authorities in providing immediate relief to the victims.
The NGF reiterated its commitment to supporting the affected states in their recovery efforts and called for enhanced preparedness to mitigate the impact of such disasters in the future.
