In an official statement on Monday, the junta announced that national flags would be flown at half-mast until April 6 in remembrance of the victims.
Widespread Devastation and Rising Casualties
The earthquake, one of the deadliest in Myanmar’s history, has left thousands injured and caused widespread destruction. Experts have linked the country’s rapid building boom to the severity of the disaster, with poorly constructed structures contributing to the high casualty rate.
