Kwara State has been recognized as the best-performing state in Nigeria for counterpart funding payments under the Rural Access Agricultural and Marketing Project (RAAMP), reinforcing its commitment to infrastructure development and rural accessibility.
The announcement was made on Monday in Abuja during the 8th RAAMP Implementation Support Mission, where participating states were assessed on their funding commitments and overall progress.
Kwara Leads in Funding and Disbursement
According to a statement from the Kwara State Ministry of Works and Transport, signed by Press Secretary Olajide Abolarin, Kwara emerged as the top-ranking state among 19 participating states in two key areas:
- Counterpart Fund Payments – Kwara State contributed the highest amount to the RAAMP initiative.
- Overall Disbursement of Funds – The state accessed more funds than any other in its category from the World Bank and French Development Bank.
Speaking on the achievement, Kwara State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Abdulquawiy Olododo, described the ranking as a reflection of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to equitable development.
“This is a big win for our state. It confirms the governor’s dedication to the cause of equitable development,” Olododo stated.
“No state paid more counterpart funding to the programme than Kwara, and no state in our category drew more funds.”
Impact on Infrastructure Development
The ministry highlighted that the funding has directly translated into ongoing construction work on 209.77km of roads across Kwara State, improving rural access and boosting economic activities.
As Kwara continues to set the pace in infrastructural development, the recognition serves as both a validation of the government’s efforts and an incentive for further investment in rural accessibility projects.
