In a recent plenary session held in Lokoja, the Kogi State House of Assembly successfully screened and confirmed Yakubu Siyaka Adabenege as the new Auditor-General for local government. Nominated by the outgoing governor of the state, Yahaya Bello, Adabenege, who previously served as the Personal Assistant to the governor-elect, Alhaji Usman Ododo, received the endorsement during the legislative proceedings.

Addressing Assembly correspondents shortly after his confirmation, the newly appointed Auditor-General for Local Government expressed his commitment to ensuring transparency and preventing fraud within the system. He pledged to maintain and build upon the successful framework established by his predecessor, Alhaji Usman Ododo, in order to elevate the office to new heights.

Adabenege stated, “I want to assure you that we will build on the success of Alhaji Usman Ododo who just left office. All the templates that he used, we are going to consolidate on them and make sure that the office is taken to the next level.”

In a related development, two bills successfully passed a second reading in the Kogi State House of Assembly. The bills aim to repeal and reenact the Customary Court of Appeal Establishment Law 2008 and the Kogi State Area Courts Law 1991, along with other connected matters.
