Kogi PDP Elects New Leadership Ahead of 2027 Elections

Lokoja, Nigeria — In a strategic move ahead of the 2027 elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State has elected new leaders during its congress held on Saturday at Kefas Hall in Lokoja, the state capital.

The congress, which marked the end of the Caretaker Committee led by Senator Danjuma Lah, saw the participation of 1,943 delegates from the state’s 21 local government areas. The newly elected officials are set to steer the party’s activities for the next four years, with Enemona Anyebe emerging as the new chairman, representing a significant shift to the Kogi East Senatorial District.

According to a statement released on Sunday by the party’s Congress Head of Media, Austin Okai, the elections were conducted in a fair and transparent manner, with most candidates running unopposed.

A New Leadership Team

The newly elected officials, as announced, are:

  • Chairman: Enemona Anyebe
  • Deputy State Chairman: Alhaji Yahaya Karaku
  • State Secretary: Sunday Olufemi Ibrahim
  • Organizing Secretary: Abdulkadir Ibrahim
  • Legal Adviser: Senibj Segun
  • Financial Secretary: Paul Ukwenya
  • Publicity Secretary: Umoru Tijani Aruwa
  • Treasurer: Audu Siyaka Uhanaye
  • Auditor: Jude Sule

Other key positions include Women Leader Mrs. Esther Soje, Youth Leader Yunusa Adazake, and State Vice Chairmen Igagwu Haruna (East), Anthony Akuvada (Central), and Ibrahim Taiwo (West).

Upholding PDP’s Principles

The Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Istifanus Gyang, commended the process, asserting that true power lies with the people. He emphasized the importance of the new leadership in upholding the party’s principles and maintaining accountability, reaffirming the PDP’s status as the largest political party in Africa and a foundational entity for other parties.

“The newly elected officials are entrusted with managing the party’s activities for the next four years,” Gyang stated. He urged the new leadership to be vigilant in preserving the integrity of the PDP and to work diligently towards securing the party’s success in the upcoming elections.

A Gathering of Political Stakeholders

The congress was attended by several prominent figures, including former national and state assembly members, representatives from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and other key party stakeholders. Their presence underscored the importance of the event and the pivotal role that the new leadership will play in the political landscape of Kogi State as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.
