The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) refutes claims made by members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) regarding an alleged compromise deal for the anticipated Supreme Court judgment on the contested governorship in the state.
According to Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, the Kano State APC chairman, the purported agreement and reconciliation are mere rumors. He contends that the NNPP’s dissemination of these rumors is an attempt to mislead its members, fostering false hope amid the prevailing disfranchisement.
Following the recent Appeal Court verdict affirming the State Election Petitions Tribunal’s decision to oust Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who sought Supreme Court intervention, Abbas clarified that there is no truth to the rumors suggesting NNPP’s outreach to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The alleged objective was to secure his intervention in favor of the NNPP candidate retaining the governorship and subsequently defecting to the APC.
Abbas emphasized, “There is no record of such a meeting with either Mr. President or any party leader.” He highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to democracy and the rule of law, asserting that Tinubu would not participate in any arrangement compromising justice to support individuals accused of electoral malpractice.
The APC chairman affirmed that the party was unaware of such an arrangement and pledged to intensify efforts to pursue its case at the Supreme Court. Abbas expressed confidence in the party’s victory, citing compelling evidence presented at both the Tribunal and the Appeal Court, which contributed to the party’s success.
Dispelling any notions of tension in Kano, Abbas stated that the populace is content with the recent judicial developments and judgments from both the Tribunal and the Appeal Court.
