The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring peace and security in the South-East region, urging Ndigbo at home and abroad to return to their homeland for the Christmas season without fear.
In a statement released on Thursday by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, IPOB assured that operatives of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) would maintain a secure and peaceful atmosphere throughout the festive period.
“The Directorate of State of the global family and movement of IPOB under the command of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu wishes to reiterate once again our commitment to end insecurity in the South-East region,” the statement read.
IPOB emphasized the peaceful nature of Igbo land, describing it as a strategic economic hub in Africa that requires stability to thrive. The group called on every Igbo man and woman to work towards maintaining peace and security in the region.
“We also encourage our people who wish to return home to enjoy the Christmas season as usual, with the assurance that ESN operatives will provide a peaceful atmosphere during the festive period,” the statement added.
The pro-Biafra group accused the Federal Government of neglecting security in the South-East while prioritizing other regions, alleging that the presence of Nigerian security forces in the area exacerbates insecurity. It pledged to take full responsibility for the protection of lives and property in the region through the efforts of IPOB and ESN operatives.
IPOB also renewed its call for Ndigbo to repatriate their investments to the South-East, emphasizing the role of local development in creating employment opportunities for the youth.
The group further cautioned criminal elements to stay away from the region, particularly during the Christmas season, stating that IPOB volunteers and ESN operatives were working diligently to deter both state-sponsored and common criminal activities.
“IPOB will provide security for the land of Biafra,” the statement concluded, assuring Ndigbo of safety during their homecoming for the festivities.
