In a recent development, Governor Hope Uzodinma, who chairs the All Progressives Congress (APC) Edo State Governorship Primary Election, has expressed his commitment to ensuring the party chooses a candidate with widespread appeal for the upcoming September governorship polls. Governor Uzodinma, also the governor of Imo State, made these remarks during his acceptance speech following the inauguration of the Primary Election and Appeal Committees at the APC national secretariat in Abuja yesterday.

As the chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum, Governor Uzodinma emphasized the need for the committees to collaborate effectively with the local leadership of the party in Edo State. He stressed the importance of producing a candidate who reflects the values of the party and is easily marketable to the electorate.

“Our party is a fantastic brand, very popular, and a good product. It behooves members of our committee to work in harmony with the local leadership of the party in Edo State to bring up a product that will look like our party and is easily marketable in Edo State,” Governor Uzodinma stated.

He reassured party members that the committees, under his leadership, would spare no effort to justify the confidence placed in them by the party’s leadership. Expressing gratitude, he urged party members to pray for the success of their efforts.

During the inauguration, APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, reminded the election panel of the importance of fairness. He highlighted that the aspirants have the freedom to appeal any decision, emphasizing the tradition of constituting bodies to ensure good results. Dr. Ganduje emphasized the role of the Appeals Committee as a mechanism akin to the Supreme Court for resolving disputes.

“It is a tradition for us to always constitute a body that will undertake an assignment so that at the end of it, we get good results. Whatever you do, the contestants are free to appeal. That is why we have an appeals committee which is like the Supreme Court,” Dr. Ganduje stated.
