Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn is mapping out a potential blockbuster fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, despite Joshua’s recent knockout loss to Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium. In an interview with DAZN, Hearn revealed that while Joshua has the option of a rematch with Dubois, the promoter believes a clash with Fury could be the “bigger and better option” for the British-Nigerian boxer.

“I think the next move is probably the most important of his career so far,” Hearn stated. “We have within our contract the option to do the rematch. I’m pretty sure after all my conversations with Turki Alalshikh, he wants the immediate rematch.”

However, Hearn emphasized the significance of a Fury fight, saying, “For me, we have to fight Tyson Fury before it’s done.” He added that if Fury loses to Oleksandr Usyk in their anticipated bout, his advice would be for Fury and Joshua to have two fights in 2025 before retiring.

Joshua, who suffered a fifth-round knockout to Dubois, remains one of boxing’s biggest attractions. Despite the defeat, he earned a guaranteed £6 million from the fight, with potential earnings reaching £25 million depending on pay-per-view sales. The event reportedly set a record for attendance at a British boxing match, with over 98,000 fans attending, according to Turki Alalshikh.

Following the loss, Joshua, 34, reaffirmed his commitment to continue his boxing career despite mounting calls for him to retire. In a video posted on Instagram, Joshua said, “We came up short, but we have got to look at all the positives, and that’s the mindset that we have to have—a positive one, always.”

Hearn believes Joshua has “between one and three fights” left in his career but will ensure that he exits the sport at the right time. “He doesn’t want to leave the sport. He loves it! But we as a team will make sure that he leaves the sport at the right time,” Hearn noted.

As the possibility of a Fury showdown looms, Hearn remains optimistic that Joshua’s next fight could be one of the most pivotal moments in his career.
