A group known as Concerned Edo Progressives (CEP) has voiced its support for Barrister Kasimu Otono’s bid to contest the Edo 2024 Governorship election, emphasizing the necessity for youthful leadership in the state.

Running on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform, the youthful Otono has garnered support from the CEP, which urged stakeholders to prioritize competence and actual delivery over a “sacred unwritten rotation” that might overly politicize the polity.

In a statement signed by the organization’s spokesperson, Mr. Hassan Abiri, the group highlighted the importance of presenting a capable, young, and vibrant Edo Son with proven excellence in their chosen career and without questionable character for the governorship seat.

Abiri stressed that the people of the state have been awaiting a capable and dynamic leader, emphasizing that integrity, character, capacity, humility, and competence are crucial for rescuing Edo State.

While acknowledging the golden rule adopted by stakeholders to promote peace, unity, and fairness, the group urged the APC to look beyond sentiment and prioritize competence and capacity to fulfill the Renewed Hope mantra.

Abiri reiterated Barrister Otono’s commitment and loyalty to the party, citing his decision not to defect to any other party. He also pointed out Otono’s selfless act in 2022 when he stepped down for the former national chairman of the Party, Comrade Adams Aliu Oshiomole, now a Senator, emphasizing that it is now time to reward such dedication.
