The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has vowed swift action against those responsible for the deadly explosion at Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters in Borno State. The attack, carried out by suspected Boko Haram terrorists on January 9, 2025, claimed the lives of two officers—Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat.
The explosion, which occurred around 12:10 a.m., has been condemned by the IG as an act of terror against the police force. “Any cop-killers will go unpunished,” Egbetokun declared in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
Expressing his condolences, the IG assured the families of the deceased officers that their sacrifices would not be forgotten, promising prompt payment of their benefits and entitlements.
The IG has directed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in Zone 15, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, to deploy all necessary resources and collaborate with other security agencies to track down the perpetrators. “This nefarious act will not go unanswered,” Egbetokun affirmed, reiterating the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property.
Investigations are ongoing as security agencies intensify efforts to bring the culprits to justice.
