BAUCHI – The Bauchi State Government has presented a supplementary budget request of N94.676 billion to the State House of Assembly, seeking approval to accelerate key projects aimed at improving the welfare of the state’s residents. The proposal was read during Tuesday’s plenary by the Deputy Majority Leader of the House, Babayo Akuyam, on behalf of Governor Bala Mohammed.

Akuyam explained that the supplementary budget request is in line with Section 122 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and is designed to fast-track priority projects that will enhance infrastructure, human capital, as well as health and education sectors in Bauchi State.

“The governor is committed to accelerating infrastructural development, human capital growth, and enhancing the health and education sectors,” Akuyam said, quoting the letter from Governor Mohammed.

The proposed budget aims to address critical areas of development in the state, underscoring Governor Mohammed’s commitment to improving living standards for Bauchi residents.

In a related development, the Bauchi State House of Assembly has also moved to establish a Food Security and Nutrition Committee, a new initiative aimed at tackling hunger and malnutrition in the state. Presenting the motion for its creation, Akuyam emphasized the importance of addressing the nutritional needs of vulnerable populations, including women, children, and internally displaced persons (IDPs).

“The committee’s role includes ensuring the implementation of food and nutrition initiatives under the State Ministry of Budget, Economic Planning, and Multilateral Coordination, in line with the National Multisectoral Strategic Plan of Action for Food and Nutrition,” Akuyam added.

The establishment of the committee aligns with the state’s broader efforts to improve food security and overall public health, particularly in underserved communities. The House is expected to deliberate further on both the supplementary budget and the proposed committee in the coming weeks.
