Dr. Blessing Agbomhere, the South South zonal organising secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and a gubernatorial aspirant on the party’s platform, has issued a warning to aspirants in the upcoming Edo state governorship election against introducing tribal sentiments.

In a letter addressed to President Bola Tinubu, APC National Chairman Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, and others, Agbomhere expressed concern over the marginalization of Edo North in the state’s politics. He called for the party’s gubernatorial ticket to be awarded to an aspirant from that region.

Agbomhere condemned what he perceived as a plot to incite crisis in the state by certain disgruntled individuals seeking the endorsement of former Governor of Edo State, Senator Adams Oshiomhole.

The letter stated, “We will not allow anybody or group of persons, under any guise or tribe, whether from Edo South, North, or Central to blackmail our leader, Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole for the sake of supporting or not supporting a governorship aspiration.”

Agbomhere emphasized Oshiomhole’s significant contributions to Edo State, stating that attempts to tarnish his reputation would not be tolerated. He highlighted Oshiomhole’s role in challenging the governance system, rescuing the state from stagnation, backwardness, and retrogression.

The letter also reiterated Agbomhere’s claim as the only gubernatorial aspirant with the capacity to continue the developmental strides initiated by the previous administration of Senator Adams Oshiomhole.

The warning comes as political activities intensify in the lead-up to the Edo state governorship election, emphasizing the need for fair and issue-based campaigns.
