Awka, Anambra State – The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) has announced the commencement of recruitment for ad hoc staff to assist in the upcoming local government elections scheduled for September 28. The announcement was made in a press statement released on Thursday, signed by the commission’s Chairman, Genevieve Osakwe.

According to Osakwe, the ad hoc staff will serve in various key roles during the electoral process. The available positions include Local Government Returning Officers, Ward Collation Officers, Supervisory Presiding Officers, Presiding Officers, Poll Clerks, and Poll Orderlies.

The statement outlined the application procedure, specifying that applications for the positions of Local Government Returning Officers, Ward Collation Officers, Supervisory Presiding Officers, and Presiding Officers should be submitted directly to the ANSIEC Headquarters in Awka. Meanwhile, those applying for Poll Clerk and Poll Orderly positions are required to submit their applications at the ANSIEC offices in the respective local government areas across the state’s 21 LGAs.

“ANSIEC invites applications from interested eligible citizens of Anambra State for consideration and recruitment as Ad-hoc Staff to serve in various capacities in the forthcoming local government election,” the statement read.

The commission also detailed the eligibility criteria, noting that candidates could include retired or serving public officers from federal and state governments, academic and non-academic staff from tertiary institutions, and individuals holding degrees, Higher National Diplomas (HND), Ordinary National Diplomas (OND), or at minimum, a secondary school certificate.

Applications must be submitted with two recent passport-sized photographs and a comprehensive bio-data, including the applicant’s name, age, gender, address, current employment status or last place of employment, and three references. One reference must be from the applicant’s present employment, and a letter of introduction from the traditional ruler or president-general of the applicant’s community should be included.

The deadline for submission of applications has been set for August 25, giving prospective applicants a limited window to apply for these crucial roles in the local government elections.

This recruitment drive is a critical step in ensuring that the September 28 local government elections are conducted smoothly and efficiently across Anambra State.
